DIRECTOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      A minimum of five years experience as an Administrator in education.  A minimum of five years experience as a teacher.

2.      A Master’s Degree or higher from an approved institution.

3.      A valid Rhode Island Superintendent’s Certificate.

REPORTS TO:                        Assistant Superintendent

JOB GOAL:                             To provide leadership and coordination in the on-going development, implementation and improvement of the instructional program of the district, with emphasis on standards, aligning curriculum, safety net programs, School-To-Career integration and Special Education.

TERMS OF

EMPLOYMENT:                    Salary and work year to be established by the School Committee.

EVALUATION:                     Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Superintendent.

PERFORMANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Assist Building Principals and teacher committees in designing, coordinating and implementing instructional programs and initiatives.

2.      Support Building Principals and teachers with standards, assessment and curriculum alignment.

3.      Support the Building Principals and teachers with data collection and analysis for school improvement plans.

4.      Participates as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet.

5.      Assist the Administration in developing, implementing and monitoring the strategic plan for the district.

6.      Keep abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction.

7.      Provide leadership in determining the appropriateness for inclusion of special needs students in the district’s educational program.

8.      Confer with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Building Principals with regard to the improvement of individual staff competencies.

9.      Assist in coordinating and evaluating the results of testing program and reviewing alternate forms of assessment for the district.

10.  Recommend ways in which the curriculum can be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of exceptional children.

11.  Assist in planning for professional development opportunities for the district.

12.  Help plan parent curriculum meetings.

13.  Assist in budget preparation.

14.  Supervise Safety Net Programs for the district.

15.  Assist in grant writing and implementation.

16.  Guide the development of School-To-Career curriculum activities in schools.

17.  Perform other such tasks and assume other such responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent.
