Town of Middletown

Resolution no. 2025-26

WHEREAS: The Town continues to explore opportunities for additional sources of non-tax revenue, and

WHEREAS: In fiscal Year 2026, the Town anticipates collecting approximately $1.651 million in hotel tax revenue, which reflects the 1% hotel tax that is currently collected by the state and shared with Middletown, and

WHEREAS: There is an opportunity for the State delegation to add a provision to the current statute on the collection of hotel tax that would enable communities to increase their local share of the hotel tax collection by an additional 2%.

THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED: That the Middletown Town Council authorizes the Town Administrator and the Town Solicitor to engage with the town’s State delegation to have the legislation drafted and submitted for consideration that will enable Middletown to increase the amount of hotel tax collected by the municipality.
