A Resolution to Name the Newport Skatepark on John H. Chafee Boulevard in Memory of Seamus Kirby

WHEREAS, the City of Newport recognizes the importance of honoring individuals who have made a significant impact on the community; and

WHEREAS, Seamus Daniel Kirby was a beloved member of the Newport community whose passion for skateboarding and commitment to fostering an inclusive and inspiring environment left a lasting legacy; and

WHEREAS, Seamus Kirby’s influence extended beyond the skateboarding community, touching the lives of many through his creativity, kindness, and dedication to the values of camaraderie and perseverance; and

WHEREAS, the new skatepark on John H. Chafee Boulevard provides an opportunity to commemorate Seamus Kirby’s contributions and ensure his memory continues to inspire future generations of skaters and community members alike; and

WHEREAS, the Friends of Newport Skatepark and its Board, along with community members, have expressed their full support for naming the skatepark in Seamus Kirby’s memory; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Newport, that the skatepark located on John H. Chafee Boulevard shall be officially named the Newport Skatepark in Memory of Seamus Kirby; and BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, that this dedication serves as a tribute to Seamus Kirby’s enduring legacy and his contributions to the Newport community, inspiring generations to embrace the values of creativity, community, and resilience.
