RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL

No. 2024-119

WHEREAS, in November of 2022, the voters of the City of Newport elected Mark D. Aramli to represent them on the Newport City Council in the capacity of Councilor-at-Large; and

WHEREAS, Mark Aramli’s tenure has been characterized by proactive efforts to manage Newport’s unique economic landscape, including advocating for a sustainable approach to tourism and infrastructure management to address both fiscal responsibility and community preservation; and

WHEREAS, Mark Aramli has served as Council Liaison to the Edward King Senior Citizens Center and the Newport County Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Mark Aramli has stressed addressing the City’s fiscal challenges and improving the quality of life for Newport residents and has contributed to community discussions on key initiatives such as pursuing a balanced tourism strategy and implementing infrastructure projects to enhance Newport’s resilience against environmental challenges and has advocated for revenue reforms to relieve tax burdens on Newport residents, including a proposal to increase hotel taxes and explore other tourism-based funding to support municipal services and infrastructure needs; and

WHEREAS, Mark Aramli has demonstrated a commitment to quality-of-life improvements including supporting resident protections against noise pollution through sound camera initiatives, and advocating for parking reforms that benefit Newport’s neighborhoods and maintain the City’s historic charm; and

WHEREAS, Mark Aramli has voiced strong support for educational and community investment, particularly in regard to the completion of Rogers High School with modern vocational and sports facilities, and emphasis on the long-term benefits of educational investment for Newport’s future; and

WHEREAS, Mark Aramli has sought to create a sustainable, resident-centered approach to governance, and has worked to address complex issues affecting Newport's infrastructure, economic vitality, and community well-being. NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED: that the Council of the City of Newport, on behalf of all the citizens of the City of Newport, hereby extends its sincere appreciation to Mark Aramli for his dedication and service to the City of Newport and its residents. AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED: that a certified copy of this resolution signed by the members of the Council and countersigned by the City Clerk will be provided to Mark Aramli, and this resolution shall be read into the record at his final meeting of this Council on November 13, 2024.
