DISCIPLINARY LITERACY TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A teacher in a core academic area.
2. Disciplinary Literacy trained faculty member through Institute for Learning.
3. Demonstrated understanding of standards-based teaching, learning and assessment.
4. Demonstrated ability to model lessons.
5. Demonstrated successful collaboration with staff on instructional improvement.
6. Commitment to continuous professional development.
REPORTS TO: Associate Principal/Assistant Principal in collaboration with the Coordinator for Standards, Assessment & Professional Development
JOB GOAL:
A Disciplinary Literacy trained faculty member, in Math, Science, English and Social Studies, whose partial class assignment will be advancing building capacity in Disciplinary Literacy instruction with colleagues.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Co-design and co-teach Disciplinary Literacy lessons in their respective certified content area with members of their department.
2. Maintain a Disciplinary Literacy model classroom for colleagues to observe instruction.
3. Accountable for weekly schedule that documents collaborative work with colleagues in lesson design and instruction.
4. Meet weekly with Principal or designee to coordinate and plan professional development in respective departments and assess progress in providing teacher support.
5. Work closely with Principal or designee in developing professional development instructional lessons that address teacher identified instructional needs.
6. Create a schedule where faculty are assigned to visit Disciplinary Literacy classes during professional development planning time in collaboration with Department Heads, the Associate Principal, Grade Leaders and Assistant Principal, the Coordinator for Standards, Assessment & Professional Development.
7. Co-teach on a regular basis for the purpose of demonstrating lessons for the regular classroom teacher and/or other staff, to increase transfer of Disciplinary Literacy principles and to build school-wide capacity in each department.
