WHEREAS: The Police Department's fleet of vehicles is used for the law enforcement service and protection of the residents, businesses and visitors of the City of Newport 24 hours a day and 365 days a year; and

WHEREAS: Fleet vehicles have a life expectancy determined by age, use and mechanical fitness and the police department has changing fleet needs. The police department, in consultation with the City's contracted vehicle mechanical services, developed an equipment replacement schedule in accordance with budgetary limitations; and

WHEREAS: The City of Newport approved the equipment replacement schedule as part of the capital improvement plan for FY26. The Police Department identified the purchase and up fitment of five police emergency vehicles for FY26 to be supplied and up fit by Mag-Retail LLC, dba McGovern Municipal HQ. This is in accordance of the price quote submitted using the Metropolitan Area Planning Council’s Greater Boston Police Council mass purchasing agreement authorized for city use by Council resolution No. 2021-34; and

WHEREAS: The vehicles will be up fit with emergency lighting, computers and equipment based on the Police divisional assignments the vehicles are purposed for; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED: That the City of Newport will purchase five up fit police emergency vehicles from Mag-Retail LLC, dba McGovern Municipal HQ of Shrewsbury Massachusetts, for the price not to exceed $299,292.80 and the Council Chair is authorized to sign said contract on behalf of the City, subject to favorable review by the City Solicitor.
