Policy & Procedure for Recycling

POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR RECYCLING

In accordance with the Comprehensive Solid Waste Plan, Chapter 6-3-5, Rhode  Island State and Federal laws, and as a service to our community and prosperity,  Middletown Public Schools actively recycles paper, cardboard, cans, bottles, batteries,  computer parts and ink cartridges.

I. __SCHOOL RECYCLING LOCATIONS __

●     Every classroom and staff desk in each of the schools will have a specific bin for  paper products and cardboard. Scrap paper trays should be kept in each  classroom by the teacher in an effort to use the backside of extra worksheet  copies.

●     Large receptacles labeled for bottles and cans will be located in all rooms where  food is consumed.

●       There will be a designated place for batteries, computer parts and ink cartridges  in each building. The placement of bins for these recyclables will vary  depending upon the school.

II. __RECYCLING EDUCATION __

●     Teachers will be instructed on recycling specifics and will be issued a list of  guidelines during meetings prior to the start of school. These guidelines will  also be added to the faculty handbook.

●     Methods of advertising recycling throughout the school year includes posters,  guest speakers, environmental club meetings, handouts and health classes.  ∙ A standard informational page on the specifics of recycling will be posted  wherever there is a recycling bin.
