Under the direction of the Middle School Principal, the responsibility of the Gaudet Buddies Advisor is to supervise and coordinate the Gaudet Buddies Program, while encouraging each participating student to achieve a higher level of personal skill, an enhanced appreciation for the value of school and community service, and an increased level of self-esteem.
Overall Responsibilities
There are a wide variety of responsibilities which come with being the Gaudet Buddies Advisor. The list below is not inclusive of all responsibilities, but is a general overview of expectations for the position. The majority of student activities require planning time and/or supervision beyond the school day, the stipend for the Advisor is in place for this reason. No additional pay and/or compensations days will be granted for work done in the capacity of the Advisor. The Advisor must follow all school district policies and regulations and must enforce the rules of Middletown Policies and Procedures, as well, Rhode Island General Law.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Instructional Leadership
· Communicates with the student body and encourages participation in Gaudet Buddies.
· Attends Gaudet Buddies meetings as scheduled.
· Meets with the Principal on an as needed basis.
· Advises officers and committees on conduct of activities and fundraisers; signs all activity request forms to signify approval.
· Serves as intermediary between Gaudet Buddies officers and principal in seeking advice, gaining permission and keeping communications open.
· Coordinates services for J.H. Gaudet School in conjunction with the Principal.
· Submits budget needs annually to the principal and orders necessary materials for the Gaudet Buddies in accordance with established timelines and guidelines.
· Oversees and accounts for any financial dealings of the students including the intake of money from fundraisers, the deposit of monies into the Student Council Activities Fund, the preparation of checks, and the making of arrangements for contractual services.
· Student Management
· Provides supervision of all students involved in the Gaudet Buddies activities according to School Committee policy and school procedures.
· Maintains necessary club roster, attendance forms, and similar paperwork and provides information to the principal as requested.
· School and Community Relations
· Cooperates and shares professionally with other members of the staff.
· Strives to establish cooperative relations and makes a reasonable effort to communicate with parents/community as appropriate.
· Promotes awareness of Gaudet Buddies activities through reports to the principal and other relevant audiences as well as by other communications activities.
· Other Assigned Duties
· Performs other appropriate tasks and assumes such other responsibilities in connection with the advisorship as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.
Qualifications
· Valid R.I. Teaching Certificate (Preferred).
· Documentation of a clear BCI.
· Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate school events.
· Work effectively with large and small groups.
· Basic first aid/CPR (Preferred).
· Effective, active listening skills.
· Organizational and problem solving skills.
· Ability to communicate ideas and directions clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
· Proficient in spelling, proofreading, and the correct use of grammar.
· Such alternatives to the above qualifications as Superintendent and/or School Committee may find appropriate.
