Resolution

RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE RELOCATION OF THE STOP SIGN AT THE INTERSECTION OF SGT. WEIDEMANN DRIVE AND HILLSIDE AVENUE

WHEREAS, the Newport City Council is committed to ensuring the safety of motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and residents on City streets; AND

WHEREAS, the stop sign controlling traffic at the intersection of Sgt. Weidemann Drive and Hillside Avenue is currently positioned beyond the intersection, requiring motorists traveling on Hillside Avenue to proceed past Sgt. Weidemann Drive before coming to a complete stop; AND

WHEREAS, the current placement of the stop sign creates a visibility and safety concern for motorists exiting Sgt. Weidemann Drive, as vehicles frequently roll through or stop beyond the intersection; AND

WHEREAS, the existing configuration increases the potential for vehicle conflicts and poses an unnecessary risk to drivers, pedestrians, and other roadway users; AND

WHEREAS, relocating the stop sign to the appropriate location at the corner of the intersection would improve traffic control, enhance visibility, and increase public safety; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, that the City Council finds that adding additional signage is a reasonable and necessary safety measure to improve safety for residents and motorists using both Sgt. Weidemann Drive and Hillside Avenue.
