RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL
No. 2025-102

WHEREAS, the Town of Middletown (the “Town”) is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities to all students; and

WHEREAS, the Town and the City of Newport (the “City”) are currently engaged in preliminary discussions regarding school regionalization; and

WHEREAS, the City has passed Resolution 2024-43 calling for the formation of a Joint Academic Integration Advisory Committee (the “AIAC”) to provide recommendations on how to best advance educational integration and regionalization between Middletown and Newport public schools, and how to best improve educational outcomes for all students; and

WHEREAS, the AIAC is to be comprised of members with education expertise from both communities; and

WHEREAS, the wishes to participate in the formation of the AIAC, as herein set forth.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:

Resolved: that the Town join with the City of Newport in the formation of a Joint Academic Integration Advisory Committee (the “AIAC”), which shall be comprised of members with education expertise from both communities and which shall provide recommendations on how to best advance educational integration and regionalization between Newport and Middletown public schools, and how to best improve educational outcomes for all students; and

Resolved: that Town Clerk Wendy J. W. Marshall shall advertise for applicants to serve on the AIAC, and Town Administrator Shawm J. Brown shall coordinate with the City administration on the formation thereof.
