RESOLUTION

No. 2024-91
WHEREAS: available data from the Police Department shows that the fatal pedestrian strike on Broadway at Bedlow on 8/5/2024 was the only pedestrian strike at that location since 2020; and
WHEREAS: the above location’s proximity to Jesus Saviour Catholic Church and Innovate Newport, a record of 14 motor vehicle crashes in that area since 8/6/2021, observed limited street lighting in the vicinity, and Broadway’s overall reputation for pedestrian strikes (13 since 2020) make the crossing at Broadway and Bedlow a sensible candidate for the addition of a crosswalk sign. NOW THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED: that the purchase and placement of a cross walk pedestrian safety sign on Broadway at the intersection if Below Avenue/Elliot Place is hereby approved.
