RESOLUTION

COUNCIL

No. 2025-57

WHEREAS: the City of Newport, Police Department operates an undercover vice investigative and enforcement unit; and

WHEREAS: the Vice Unit conducts potentially dangerous narcotics investigations; and

WHEREAS: the Vice Unit utilizes vehicles that must be purchased privately and without public disclosure for the safety of the officers conducting these investigations. NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED: that the Council approves a waiver of the procurement procedures for the purchase of undercover vehicles for the Police Department Vice Unit to allow for the direct purchase of these vehicles for the duration that the vice unit operates or 15 years, whichever comes first.
