AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF TITLE 12 OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, REVISION OF 1994, AS AMENDED, ENTITLED, "STREETS, SIDEWALKS AND PUBLIC PLACES.

BE IT ORDAINED by the City of Newport:

SECTION 1. Chapter 12.32 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Newport, RI, Revision of 1994, as amended, entitled, "Park and Recreation Areas," is hereby further amended, as follows:

12.32.061. Public tennis courts, pickleball courts and running tracks—Regulations.

Bicycles, motorcycles, skateboards, roller blades, and roller skates of all kinds are prohibited on public tennis courts and running tracks.

No person shall use commercial equipment on or within the tennis and pickleball courts, including marking of temporary lines, without the written permission from the recreation administrator.

DELETE:

Hunter Park and Vernon Park: Pickleball courts shall be closed for public use between the hours of seven p.m. and eight-thirty a.m. of the following day, Monday through Saturday, and shall be closed for public use between the hours of six p.m. and ten a.m. of the following day, Sunday, and no person shall go upon such areas during the hours of closing, except city employees in the course of their official duties and persons who have permission from the city manager to go upon such premises.

ADD IN LIEU THEREOF

Hunter Park and Vernon Park: Pickleball courts shall be open for public use:

Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.;

Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.;

Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;

Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

No person shall go upon such areas during the hours of closing, except city employees in the course of their official duties and persons who have permission from the city manager to go upon such premises.

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and all ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
