RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RE-DEDICATION OF MEMORIAL BOULEVARD IN HONOR OF THE VETERANS OF NEWPORT

WHEREAS, the City of Newport has a long and distinguished history of military service and sacrifice through the contributions of its residents who have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States; and

WHEREAS, generations of Newport veterans have answered the call to duty during times of war and peace, defending the freedoms and values upon which this nation was founded; and

WHEREAS, the members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 406 have continued to serve the Newport community through advocacy, remembrance, civic engagement, and support for veterans and their families; and

WHEREAS, Memorial Boulevard was originally established to serve as a lasting tribute to those who served in the military and sacrificed in defense of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the importance of preserving and strengthening public awareness of the service and sacrifice of Newport’s veterans for present and future generations; and

WHEREAS, the proposed re-dedication of Memorial Boulevard will reaffirm the City’s enduring commitment to honoring all veterans of Newport, Rhode Island, and ensuring that their contributions are appropriately recognized and memorialized; and

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the re-dedication effort proposed and supported by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 406 represents a meaningful and fitting tribute to the men and women of Newport who have served this nation with honor; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED, that the Newport City Council hereby expresses its support for the re-dedication of Memorial Boulevard in honor and memory of Newport’s veterans; and BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, that the City Council recognizes the efforts of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 406 in advancing this initiative and supporting projects intended to memorialize and properly honor the veterans of the City of Newport; and BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, that the City Council encourages collaboration among municipal departments, veterans organizations, historical organizations, and community stakeholders to facilitate appropriate commemorative improvements, signage, memorial elements, and public recognition associated with this re-dedication effort; and BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 406 in recognition of its continued service to veterans and the Newport community.
