2024-52 Requesting the Public Utilities Commission to oppose a jitney license for Comedy Bus, LLC

RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL

No.2024-52

WHEREAS, The City of Newport has been notified of a Public Utilities Commission ("PUC") hearing originally scheduled for May 9th at 10:00 am in Warwick, Rhode Island to request licensing of a jitney (bus) route for a traveling comedy show which routes through Newport including those zoned residential; AND

WHEREAS, most of the route for the jitney operations will be within residential areas of Newport resulting in commercial activities invading and burdening residential neighborhoods; AND

WHEREAS, the description of the jitney vehicles to be used and the activities to be conducted thereon suggest that noise from the activities therein will be heard throughout the route through the residential neighborhoods; AND

WHEREAS, the nature of proposed jitney service is such that public convenience and necessity will not be served. No public need exists for such services.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT:

RESOLVED: that the City of Newport opposes the granting of the jitney license or permit to Comedy Bus, LLC and requests that the PUC deny the same.
