RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL
No. 2024-118

WHEREAS, in November of 2018, the voters of the First Ward elected Angela Lima to represent them on the Newport City Council; and in both 2020 and 2022 she was re-elected to the Council in that capacity; and

WHEREAS, Angela Lima’s tenure has been characterized by a thoughtful and inclusive approach to the many projects and initiatives before the Council affecting the quality of life and economic well-being of the City’s residents; and

WHEREAS, Angela Lima has served as Council Liaison to many civic and community organizations, including the Newport County Chamber of Commerce and the Newport Public Education Foundation; as well as many City Boards and Commissions such as the Affirmative Action Commission, the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission, the City Council/School Liaison Committee, the Energy & Environment Commission, the Miantonomi Park Commission and the Tree & Open Space Commission; and she also served as the City’s Legislative Liaison as well as the Military Affairs Liaison; and

WHEREAS, Angela Lima has supported many projects and initiatives relating to the environment and sustainability which improve residents’ quality of life such as the reduction of carbon and gas emissions and projects to address stormwater runoff to reduce neighborhood impacts; and

WHEREAS, Angela Lima has supported the recently implemented two-tiered tax system resulting in savings for homeowners and promoted the installation of Rhode Island’s First Pride Crosswalk; and

WHEREAS, Angela Lima has stressed the importance of inclusiveness for residents and ensured that all residents have the opportunity to have their voices heard to reduce disparities in matters including housing, urban development, and planning and zoning processes and she has promoted equitable development initiatives and programs providing more diverse opportunities to support families and foster healthy and vibrant neighborhoods in the City; and
