RESOLUTION
PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 20, 2025
JAMES "JIM" CULIPHER DAY
IN THE TOWN
WHEREAS: The Town Council of the Town of Middletown has been apprised that Middletown Resident James "Jim" Culipher has been selected as Knight of the Year 2025, and
WHEREAS: James Culipher was born in Newport, RI on March 3, 1945, and grew up in Middletown, RI, and
WHEREAS: Mr. Culipher served in the US Navy from 1963-1967 where he was stationed in San Diego, California. Jim served on two ships during his tour of duty. The USS Saint Claire (LST-1096) and the USS Jason (ARA-8). He was an Engineman 3rd Class Petty Officer when he was discharged although he was selected for promotion to a 2nd Class Petty Officer but did not have enough time remaining before his honorable discharge to be advanced, and
WHEREAS: Upon his discharge Jim worked for Raytheon, Johnson Brothers Oil, Leary Oil, and the US Navy at the Newport Naval Station (Public Works) until he retired in 2010. Jim also had his own Burner Service for over 30 years.
WHEREAS: Jim, a devoted husband to Maureen Kelly, married June 6, 1964 at Saint Mary's Church, Newport, RI and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary last year. The Culipher's raised three beautiful children: John, Jim (Andrea) and Chris (Megan), and
WHEREAS: It is fitting, indeed, that this Town Council joins in the well-deserved tribute to James Culipher in recognition of his dedication, energy and contributions to his community, and
THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED: The Town Council of the Town of Middletown, speaking on behalf of all its citizens, commends and congratulates James Culipher's on his time of service as a member of the Middletown/Newport Knights of Columbus, Council
