RESOLUTION
OF THE
COUNCIL
No. 2025-150
WHEREAS: In the course of criminal investigations, there are times when Investigators have legal authority to search mobile communication devices and it takes special hardware and software to navigate the electronics; and
WHEREAS: Magnet Forensic of Atlanta, Georgia has provided unique proprietary technology required to extract data from mobile communication devices to the City of Newport Police Department for use with criminal investigations; and
WHEREAS: Magnetic Forensic of Atlanta, Georgia is a sole source for this extraction software; and
WHEREAS: The Police Department has used this software for the past two years and it has assisted with recovering crucial evidence and firearms. It has also assisted with convictions in court. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED: That the City of Newport renew from Magnet Forensics of Atlanta, Georgia, Grey Key Software, Grey Key License & Magnet Axiom Essentials at a not to exceed cost of $18,104.00, and the Council Chair is authorized to sign said contract on behalf of the City, subject to favorable review by the City Solicitor.
