RESOLUTION
OF THE
COUNCIL
No. 2025-130
WHEREAS, as called for in Resolution No. 2023-29, the city established the Sister City Exchange Commission; AND
WHEREAS, the City of Newport has six Sister cities - Shimoda, Japan; Kinsale, Ireland; Imperia, Italy; Ponta Delgada, The Azores; Skiathos, Greece; and St. John, New Brunswick, Canada; AND
WHEREAS, the Sister City Exchange Commission was established to maintain the strong international relationships between Newport and her sister cities; AND
WHEREAS, the Sister City Exchange Commission is comprised of nine members from city-wide organizations and businesses, who combined, have a robust skillset focused on economic trade, education, arts and culture exchanges; AND
WHEREAS, these nine members are serving staggered terms of one-year, two-years and three-years; AND
WHEREAS, upon expiration of their initial term, members may request reappointment from the Mayor for a second term if they so choose; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED, that members of the Sister City Exchange Commission shall serve a three-year term once reappointed.
