RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL

No.2025-16

WHEREAS, The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center has been an essential institution to the residents of Newport and Newport County for over 100 years; AND

WHEREAS, The MLK Center has offered many programs for at-risk individuals, families, and seniors in their fight with hunger, education, and health promotion; AND

WHEREAS the center would like to ask the City of Newport to provide a City Council liaison in an effort to raise continued awareness and help with these efforts; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED, that the Council Chair of the Newport City Council appoint Stephanie Smyth to be the liaison to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center effective upon passage of this resolution.
