Business registration fees increased

Application fee raised to $20 and annual registration fee raised to $100 for city business registrations.

What it does

ORDINANCE

OF THE
COUNCIL

No.2026-21

AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF TITLE FIVE OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, REVISION OF 1994, AS AMENDED, ENTITLED, "BUSINESS LICENSES AND REGULATIONS."

BE IT ORDAINED by the City of Newport:

SECTION 1. Chapter 5.04 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Newport, Revision of 1994, as amended, entitled, "BUSINESS LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS GENERALLY," is hereby further amended as follows:

Section 5.04.030. Registration fee.

DELETE IN ITS ENTIRETY

There shall be a one-time initial application fee of ten dollars ($10.00). The registration fee, including annual renewals, shall be twenty-five dollars ($25.00).

ADD IN LIEU THEREOF

There shall be an application fee of twenty dollars ($20.00). The registration fee, including annual renewals, shall be one hundred dollars ($100.00).

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and any ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
