RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL

No.2025-33

WHEREAS, On Wednesday February 12, 2025, the Newport City Council voted 6-0 in favor of a resolution presented by Councilor David Carlin to ask City Administration to remove a speed camera from Ruggles Ave.; AND

WHEREAS, Councilor Carlin also asked for community meetings to take place, appropriate notifications to residents and explicit approval from the City Council for the installation of any speed cameras or other tracking technology used in the city; AND

WHEREAS, during discussion of the resolution, the City Council was made known of the cost to remove the speed camera on Ruggles Ave., which was stated at approximately $90,000 to the taxpayers of Newport; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED, the speed camera on Ruggles Avenue be removed as originally decided on February 12, 2025, and give the City Manager permission to go to RIDOT to ask to have the camera relocated to Admiral Kalbfus Rd. where it could provide RIDOT with the needed data to show we actually do have a crisis there.
