WHEREAS, the intersection of America's Cup Ave. and Bannister's Wharf experiences exceptional vehicular and pedestrian traffic posing significant safety risks, specifically on the west side of America's Cup at Bannister's Wharf; and

WHERAS, the presence of loading trucks on the north side of the Bannister's Wharf crosswalk obstructs visibility for southbound motorists and cyclists, further endangering pedestrians; and

WHEREAS, the City acknowledges that America's Cup Avenue is under the jurisdiction of RIDOT, necessitating state collaboration for any modifications; and

WHEREAS, on July 9, 2025, the Newport City Council approved Resolution 2025-116, directing the City Manager to formally request that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), collaborate to install traffic delineators on the west side of America's Cup Ave, north of the Bannister's Wharf crosswalk, developing an agreement with RIDOT for the delineator improvements and continued maintenance by the City. NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED: the Newport City Administration presents this Construction and Maintenance Agreement between the City and RIDOT for said traffic delineators on America's Avenue, requesting City Council approval of said agreement to be signed by the Newport City Manager and Newport City Solicitor.
