RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL

No. 2026-76

WHEREAS, the City of Newport recognizes the vital role that community focused, nonprofit organizations play in strengthening the social, cultural, educational and civic fabric of the City, where it is the goal to support local organizations that provide meaningful services, programs and community benefits to Newport residents; AND

WHEREAS, the City administers a Community Grant Program offering Civic Support & Civic Service Grants to provide financial assistance to eligible nonprofit organizations in a manner that is transparent, equitable and consistent with established program guidelines; AND

WHEREAS, Community Grant applications for FY27 were solicited, received, reviewed and evaluated through a competitive process, scored by an independent panel using previously established criteria and a standardized scoring rubric to ensure fairness, consistency, and objectivity; AND

WHEREAS, funding requests and award recommendations were allocated among two grant categories, Civic Support and Civic Services, where final funding recommendations were developed on application scores/rankings, consistent with available funding levels and program priorities, ensuring that Civic Support and Civic Service Grant awards are distributed transparently, equitably, and in alignment with program guidelines and the City's strategic goals; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED: The City Council hereby approves the recommended Civic Support awards for Fiscal Year 2027, the funding approved in accordance with the Sear's Trust.
