WHEREAS, the City of Newport is given authority by Rhode Island General Law 45-2-35.1 to charge a landing fee of $3.00 per passenger and a boarding fee of $3.00 per passenger from every cruise ship landing and embarking from a dock in Newport; AND
WHEREAS, the fees have not increased since 2014; AND
WHEREAS, the City of Newport would like to increase the fees up to $10.00 per passenger and up to $10.00 per passenger for boarding; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED: the Newport City Council requests the Rhode Island General Assembly to amend RI General Law 45-2-35.1 to allow the City to increase the cruise ships fees up to $10.00 per passenger and up to $10.00 per passenger for boarding.
