Subject: Award of Contract - Restoration, and Repair of Exterior Windows at Fire Department Station 5
Staff Presentation: Humphrey J. Donnelly, IV, Fire Chief
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Council award a contract to Martone Service Company, Inc., of 22 Sextant Lane, Narragansett, RI 02882 to restore and repair 23 exterior windows at Fire Department Station 5, located on the corner of Touro Street and Mary Street. The 23 windows to be restored and repaired are located on the third floor, tower stairwell, and the apparatus floor. The cost of the window restoration and repair will be a total of $172,500.00 and conducted under the terms of RFP #24-005.
BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:
The City of Newport Fire Department seeks to enter into a contract for the restoration and repair of 23 exterior windows at the City’s Fire Station #5, located at the corner of Mary Street and Touro Street. Fire Station #5 was built in 1895. All 23 of these windows are original to the Station and without these repairs will have reached the end of their service life. The windows to be restored and repaired per this award are located on the Station’s third floor, tower stairwell, and first floor. In their current state, the windows no longer adequately protect the inside of the property from the elements. After a formal Request for Proposal (RFP #24-005) process, the Martone Service Company, Inc., of 22 Sextant Lane, Narragansett, RI 02882, was the sole responding bidder. These repairs are needed to maintain a critical piece of the City’s Public Safety infrastructure.
