RESOLUTION

No. 2025-77
WHEREAS: a key section of Newport Cliff Walk paved trail collapsed from coastal erosion exacerbated by severe weather incidents; and
WHEREAS: the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) awarded the City of Newport $3 Million for the capital expenses related to the reconstruction of the Newport Cliff Walk to restore pedestrian access; and
WHEREAS: the total cost of the work to be performed under the Grant Agreement shall not exceed Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000.00) of which RIDEM will provide a total funding equal to no more than 100% of the actual expenses or a maximum amount of Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000.00), with no municipal matching funds required; and
WHEREAS: the City of Newport desires to enter into this Agreement to conduct work outlined in the Scope of Work, Budget and Contract Schedule attached as Exhibit A; and
WHEREAS: the Project must be completed within the Performance Period, which begins the date a Purchase Order is issued and ends by March 1, 2031 (hereinafter “Performance Period”). NOW THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED: that the Grant Agreement between the City of Newport and the RIDEM for the purpose of, “Repairs to the Newport Cliff Walk,” for the period of June 1, 2025 – March 1, 2031 is hereby approved and the Council Chair is authorized to sign said Grant Agreement on behalf of the City, subject to review of the City Solicitor’s office.
