2024-18 Amending Chapter 17.76, entitled, “Signs” (Second Reading)

AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF TITLE 17 OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, REVISION OF 1994, AS AMENDED, ENTITLED, "ZONING."

BE IT ORDAINED by the City of Newport:

SECTION 1. Chapter 17.76 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Newport, RI, revision of 1994, as amended, entitled, "Signs," is hereby further amended as follows:

DELETE IN ITS ENTIRETY

17.76.090 Projections and shielding.

Projecting signs may extend a maximum of four feet from a building, wall or screening surface, but in no case shall a sign extend closer than eighteen (18) inches from the curb line. Any sign which extends over a sidewalk shall be at least twelve (12) feet above such sidewalk. Freestanding signs shall not extend beyond the property line of the lot on which they are located. Light sources which cast light on signs shall be shielded so as not to be visible from off the property where they are located. Light sources and shields which are an integral part of the sign shall be subject to the same regulations that apply to the sign itself.

ADD IN LIEU THEREOF

17.76.090. Projections and shielding.

Light sources and shields which are an integral part of the sign shall be subject to the same regulations that apply to the sign itself.

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and all ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
