DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY
QUALIFICATIONS__**
1. Bachelors or Master’s Degree (in technology or related field preferred).
2. Experience in the field: IT Management, Network management, workstation configuration and hardware/software installation, configuration, and repair.
3. Excellent problem solving and project management skills, as well as strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
4. At least three (3) years successful experience in a technology leadership and supervisory role in education preferred
5. Demonstrate excellent skills in Windows based network and general computer literacy, specifically with Microsoft products.
6. Ability to adapt to unexpected interruptions of the daily work pattern.
7. Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to team efforts and organizational efforts.
8. Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
9. Agree to work with (mutually agreed upon) flex time schedule and be on call 24x7
10. Demonstrated ability in providing effective approaches for educational and administrative technology.
11. Ability to work with colleagues, parents, students and administrators.
12. Strong technical background in design and application of technology systems, including Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks, administrative and classroom technology, workstation and server management, database management and reporting, web site development and maintenance, system integration and administrative software necessary to operate a public school district.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Academic and Technology Services
JOB GOAL: This individual is responsible for operating and maintaining the school based networks, workstations and other peripheral devices with the 2003/XP network while helping to lead the technology department to ensure a streamlined operation and maintenance of the district wide use of technology to ensure operating excellence and maximum educational use. Additional responsibilities include setup, maintenance and repair and troubleshooting of hardware/software with networks, servers, workstations, and phone system. Also assisting with data, web site and instructional support as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month year. Salary and work year to be established by the School Committee.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent for Academic and Technology Services.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
2. Assist in providing leadership for short and long-range planning for all technology initiatives: vision, goals, program objectives/strategies/activities, policies, planning, infrastructure, staffing, training, evaluation, budgeting, and collaboration with others.
3. Assist with the purchase of equipment, software, related media, and supplies
4. Supervises the system-wide inventory of technology assets, small parts and software licenses.
5. Assist with the operation of the district student information system and other data management systems. Assist with the preparation of all district, state and federal reports.
6. Assist with the design, develop and update district (including schools) website.
7. Support the implementation and management of all educational and administrative technology programs and systems.
8. Oversee the configuration, expansion and management of the Wide Area Network and Local Area Networks including but not limited to routers, firewalls, switches and servers.
9. Oversee the installation, update and configuration of district phone system, hardware, software and systems.
10. Help to coordinate all audio/visual needs in the district.
11. Facilitate the development of and/or prepare proposals for funding technology-related projects including but not limited to E-Rate.
12. Represent the district as requested at regional and statewide meetings.
13. Serve as liaison with educational, private sector and other agencies.
14. Operates/manages/monitors/documents the district's wide area network. Performs backups of all administrative servers and maintains servers. Analyzes performance of network and problems related to the network.
15. Plans and administers security on the network. Maintains & updates network plan. Works with consultants/architects/planners on network development. Manages firewall and routers.
16. Investigate security breaches and misuse of network.
17. Is responsible for archiving data, planning and administering for disaster recovery.
18. Working knowledge of relational databases, database design, database report writers, including SQL and Access.
19. Working knowledge of programming code (visual basic).
20. Troubleshoots administrative hardware and software problems and their peripheral devices including printers and scanners.
21. Produces network management reports and analysis of them.
22. Assists with bid requests and equipment acquisition and plans upgrades to equipment on the network.
23. Serves as liaison with outside service and supply vendors.
24. Assist the district in utilizing and managing other technology as needed.
25. Perform all other duties as assigned.
