RESOLUTION
OF THE
COUNCIL
No.2026-75
WHEREAS, Residents of the City of Newport have enjoyed use of Murphy Field (The Rich) for generations; AND
WHEREAS, The field has undergone many significant and appropriate renovations in the past several years, which include but are not limited to, a regrading of the field areas, restorations of the basketball and tennis courts and surroundings, installation of an American flag and lighting, placement of a new Murphy Field monument, and upgrades to playground facilities; AND
WHEREAS, What has not been attended to in a manner that is deserving of its history, use and previous delight to children and families, is the Stone Slide, once a cornerstone of Murphy Field; AND NOW THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED: That the Newport City Council directs the city administration to pursue requests for information regarding the costs associated with properly renovating the stone slide for safe use again, with the administration reporting results back to the council within as reasonable a time frame as possible.
