2024-128 Proposed EDA Fiscal Year 2023 Disaster Supplemental Grant to Fund Climate Resilient Stormwater Infrastructure in the North End

WHEREAS, grant funding is available under the EDA Fiscal Year 2023 Disaster Supplemental. Awards made under the funding opportunity are designed to address economic challenges where a Presidential declaration of a major disaster has been issued. The proposed project supports the construction costs of new climate-resilient stormwater infrastructure in the historically disadvantaged and flood-burdened North End neighborhood. These infrastructure resiliency upgrades are intended to support the long-term economic recovery of residents, businesses, and economic development plans for the North End as detailed in the City's "North End Urban Plan". NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED that the City Council of Newport supports the submission of this project application for EDA grant funding and approves matching share not to exceed $1,200,000. The funding for the matching share will be provided by the Department of Utilities from the Water Pollution Control Division Capital Improvement Program. The matching share will contribute to additional grant funding from the EDA if awarded to construct new climate-resilient stormwater infrastructure in the North End.
