RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL

No.2024-115

WHEREAS, Included on the ballot for Newport voters in the coming 2024 General Election is a question of shall voters authorize the city to borrow $98.5 million for [infrastructure spending and more]; AND

WHEREAS, Definitive spending on many projects proposed to be funded by bond proceeds is lacking, with “estimates at best” used to present costs; AND

WHEREAS, Among the projects mentioned in certain city descriptions but not contained in actual bond language is “Rogers HS Landfill & Disposition of Remaining Soil; Rogers Completion; AND

WHEREAS, The aforementioned project and/or description, which language was originally added with no direction from the city council, is a clear example of lacking definitive spending details in favor of “estimates at best” which, according to U.S. Government experts, are greatly underestimated; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED: As it relates to “Rogers HS Landfill & Disposition of Remaining Soil; Rogers Completion,” the priority intended for use of available funds shall be the disposition of the approximately 52,000 cubic yards of soil contained as a growing pile located on the Rogers High School construction site.
