Guidelines for the Use and Abandonment of School Buildings

GUIDELINES FOR THE USE AND ABANDONMENT OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS

1. Within practical economic and physical limitations, all Middletown school buildings shall comply with standards recommended by the Rhode Island Department of Education.

2. Absent extraordinary circumstances, the Superintendent shall inform the School Committee no later than February of each year of any recommendation he or she may have to close facilities in the following school year.

3. The Middletown School Committee shall make particular efforts to publicize these recommendations and to afford parents in the involved schools a full opportunity to be heard before any final decision is made.
