RESOLUTION

COUNCIL

WHEREAS: The State’s Executive Office of the Department of Health & Human Services (RI-EOHHS) have designated Municipal Incentives as a funding priority to support place-based partnerships that address specific geographic areas through a “whole-person” approach; and

WHEREAS: the Newport/Middletown Situation Table emerged from multi-agency and inter-municipal discussions initiated in 2024 in response to increasing community needs and significant service overlap among individuals and families experiencing multiple behavioral health, social, and substance use challenges; and

WHEREAS: since its inception as a pilot program in January 2025, the Newport/Middletown Situation Table has established a community-based, cross-sector partnership of more than twenty (20) agencies providing coordinated crisis intervention and support for individuals facing addiction, homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and other complex needs; and

WHEREAS: The Executive Office of the Department of Health & Human Services (RI-EOHHS) has authorized a grant award to The City of Newport to advance and expand the work of The Newport/Middletown Situation Table, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED: that the City Council of the City of Newport hereby authorizes the Grants Office within the Department of Resilience & Sustainability, in collaboration with the Newport Fire Department / EMS, to accept a $100,000 grant award from the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health & Human Services (RI EOHHS) to support the program services of the Newport/Middletown Situation Table.
