RESOLUTION

OF THE
COUNCIL

No. 2026-49

WHEREAS, on April 14, 2009, the City of Newport and the Newport Gulls entered into an agreement entitling the Newport Gulls to the use of Cardines Field for the sole and exclusive purpose of conducting amateur collegiate baseball games; and

WHEREAS, the Newport Gulls have successfully and continuously conducted amateur baseball games at said field, providing high-quality athletic competition and well-managed events for the community; and

WHEREAS, the Newport Gulls organization has demonstrated itself to be an outstanding community partner, contributing significantly to recreational opportunities, family-friendly entertainment, and a strong sense of community belonging within the City; and

WHEREAS, the City Council finds it to be in the best interest of the City to continue its longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship due to the Newport Gulls enhancing the City’s cultural and recreational landscape while fostering civic pride and engagement; and

WHEREAS, the City is seeking City Council approval to enter into a new License Agreement with the Newport Gulls for an initial term of five (5) years, with an option to extend for one (1) additional five (5) year term, for the continued use of the City’s baseball field for amateur collegiate baseball operations; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED: this agreement be mutually executed between the parties and that the Council Chair is hereby authorized to sign said Agreement in a form deemed acceptable by the City Solicitor.
