Use of Tobacco / Nicotine Use Policy

** **The Middletown School Committee recognizes the danger that the use of nicotine delivery products poses to the  health of smokers and non-smokers alike, as well as the potential fire hazard created by  smoking materials. Furthermore, the Middletown School Committee recognizes the role that  schools play in promoting healthy and socially responsible behavior and its responsibility to  students, staff members and the community.

Therefore, the Middletown School Committee prohibits smoking and any other use of  tobacco and nicotine delivery products in schools, on school property and grounds, and at all school-related activities  regardless of location.

.  Student possession of tobacco and nicotine delivery products is prohibited. Moreover, students are prohibited from use of tobacco products while engaged  in any school activity.~~ ~~

The Middletown School Committee also mandates that the issue of smoking and other  uses of tobacco products is included in the department’s Health Education Curriculum.
