RESOLUTION

COUNCIL

No. 2025-13

WHEREAS: the City Council passed resolution #2010-05 approving and adopting the Newport Harbor Management Plan in 2010, beginning the process of State and Federal agency review; and

WHEREAS: after extensive discussions and reviews between the City's Waterfront Commission, the Harbormaster and CRMC staff, acquiring the Plan's approval by RIDEM, Statewide Planning, the Army Corps of Engineers and verbal concurrence from CRMC staff the amended plan is submitted for Council approval; and

WHEREAS: based on input from State and Federal Agencies, CRMC, DEM and the Waterfront Commission, multiple technical amendments to the 2010 plan have been recommended to bring it into compliance with current CRMC guidelines; and

WHEREAS: a Harbor Management Plan adopted by the City Council and approved by CRMC will elevate Newport's eligibility for State and Federal maritime improvement grants, provide additional recognition and protection of Newport's harbor resources, and become fully effective under the laws of the State of Rhode Island. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED: that the City Council approve the Newport Harbor Management Plan, including amendments as proposed by CRMC, the Newport Waterfront Commission, and Harbormaster.
