THE CITY OF NEWPORT
RESOLUTION
OF THE
COUNCIL
No.2026-63
WHEREAS, the City is the owner of certain municipal property located at 120 Hillside Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island, commonly associated with the Maher Center; and
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted a Resolution on December 10, 2025 directing the Administration to work collaboratively with the MLK Center to facilitate expanded food access services within the community, specifically in the North End; and
WHEREAS, the MLK Center desires to lease a portion of said property consisting of the south side grass lot area adjacent to the Bike Newport Traffic Garden for operation of food pantry services and a food pantry trailer; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to permit such use subject to the terms and conditions set forth in the negotiated lease agreement; NOW THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED: that this agreement be approved in all respects, for a period of five (5) years; AND BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED: that the Council Chair is authorized to sign said agreement on behalf of the City subject to review by the City Solicitor.
