Michael Horn, Newport Police Department, addressed the Council regarding the efforts to dedicate the park. Maureen Cronin, Tree and Open Space Commission, addressed the Council in support of the project. The motion was VOTED UNANIMOUSLY.

RESOLUTIONS

COUNCILOR CARLIN introduced the resolution and moved for its passage. Seconded by COUNCILOR PINNOCK. Discussion occurred among the Council. The following members from the public addressed the Council: Patrick Heaney, Newport, RI , Capt. Robert Braman, Ridgewood Rd., Middletown, RI and Harry Gould, Middletown, RI. Discussion continued among the Council.
COUNCILOR CARLIN moved to continue the resolution to May 27, 2026. Seconded by COUNCILOR PINNOCK and VOTED UNANIMOUSLY.
31. Supporting Newport Youth Basketball - D. Carlin, E. Pinnock
COUNCILOR CARLIN introduced the resolution and moved for its passage. Seconded by COUNCILOR PINNOCK. Discussion occurred among the Council. Erik Reis, Recreation Administrator, addressed the Council. Meghan Fittilidge, addressed the Council on behalf of Newport Youth Basketball.
32. Requesting the Administration explore options for the restoration of the Stone Slide at Murphy Field - D. Carlin
COUNCILOR CARLIN introduced the resolution and moved for its passage. Seconded by COUNCILOR PINNOCK. Discussion occurred among the Council. The motion to approve was voted 3-1 with COUNCILOR NAPOLITANO opposed.
COUNCILOR CARLIN moved to reconsider item No. 21. Seconded by COUNCILOR PINNOCK and VOTED UNANIMOUSLY.
21. Action Item #6608/26 – RE: Authorization to Accept $500K Award from RIDEM Outdoor Recreation Grant (w/accompanying resolution)
COUNCILOR SMYTH moved to further amend the resolution by authorizing the Council Chair to sign the grant agreement. Seconded by COUNCILOR PINNOCK and VOTED UNANIMOUSLY. COUNCILOR SMYTH moved to adopt the resolution as amended. Seconded by COUNCILOR CARLIN and VOTED UNANIMOUSLY.
